Pirates RHP Johan Oviedo loses arbitration case

Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Johan Oviedo lost the first salary arbitration result of the year and will earn $850,000 in 2025, MLB.com reported Wednesday.

Oviedo sought $1.15 million after missing last season after Tommy John surgery. He made $765,000 in 2024.

Oviedo’s case was heard Tuesday.

In 2023, Oviedo went 9-14 with a 4.31 ERA and 158 strikeouts in 32 starts for Pittsburgh.

Overall, the 26-year-old Oviedo is 13-25 with a 4.32 ERA in 72 games (58 starts) for the St. Louis Cardinals (2020-22) and Pirates.

Among the players scheduled to have arbitration hearings are Washington Nationals first baseman Nathaniel Lowe, San Diego Padres right-hander Michael King and Milwaukee Brewers catcher William Contreras.
