Reports: Nationals bringing back All-Star closer Kyle Finnegan

All-Star right-handed reliever Kyle Finnegan has agreed to return to the Washington Nationals on a one-year, $6 million deal, according to multiple reports on Tuesday.

Finnegan recorded 38 saves last season and is expected to be the club’s closer again.

Finnegan was non-tendered by the Nationals in November as he entered his final season of arbitration eligibility. Projections called for him to make upwards of $8 million in arbitration.

He earned $5.1 million in 2024.

Finnegan, 33, went 3-8 with a 3.68 ERA in 65 appearances last season. However, he struggled in the second half with a 5.79 ERA and just 13 saves after posting a stellar 2.45 ERA and 25 saves in 41 games in the first half.

Finnegan is 22-26 with a 3.56 ERA and 88 saves in 291 relief appearances in five seasons, all with Washington.
